Hello silence, my old friend...

Hey everyone, sorry for the long quiet on my end on this here blog! As y'all know, I recently moved to a new apartment and was getting set up there, along with all the stuff about my job going on as well.

Believe it or not, I intended to post something shortly after getting settled, but I had Internet troubles. I didn't have a tech come out until last Thursday to get it fixed, due to job stuff and even a doctor's appointment. But thank God for the tech that came by, he fixed it and it didn't cost me a dime! Hot dog!

It's been over a week since I moved into the abode and I love it. I have some semblance of a routine, but still fine-tuning it. There are some things I still want to get for the abode before I can safely call it "fully-furnished" (mainly a desk chair), otherwise I am all set.

As for the job, well... it's still there. I did sign up for some overtime, so I'll be very absent for the rest of the week since I'll be too f***ing tired when I get back for the next three nights. But I want to see if I can do it. And then, if another job opportunity comes up, I can make like the Steve Miller song when I get the "yeah, come on over!"

At this rate, it'll be a lucky day if I get to the 50 posts I was planning to do to finish out the year. I have some other posts planned, but we'll have to see if I even get to do that. So first, lemme survive this week and I'll get back to you.

A Good Run of Bad Luck

Okay, I had some things go down since I last wrote on here. Allow me to present it in bullet list form, since I'm lazy and it also will work better for this. Sounds good? Alrighty then, let's go!
  • The only good thing that happened last week was the screening of Stop Making Sense. The crowd was awesome, singing along and cheering. It was like "I found my people!" And I don't even live in Austin. ;_; (About three people complimented my shirt!)
  • The job search wasn't going very well. Had a so-so interview the day after the Stop Making Sense screening. I also had a video interview with one bank, a teller skills assessment test with another. Got a "nope" email after the video interview and barely passed the test (I was two points away from the minimum) and have to wait two months to retake it.
  • Atop all this, my mood was really off for some reason. I had trouble pinning it down, but I feared the worst: is depression coming to visit again?
  • Saturday night, I finally realized the cause of my "off" mood: I was fighting off a nasty cold. So I spent my two days off (yesterday and today) to recover from it. Coughing so hard I pulled a muscle on my left side, so it hurt to stand until today.
  • With my two days off, I watched archived livestreams by Ray of Achievement Hunter, played Plants vs. Zombies (shut up, this game's ridiculously fun), and did some light reading. Along with eating a ton of fruit popsicles (which helped my throat when it was getting real sore from the coughing).
But now, there is an extra set of good news: I got another interview with a local credit union for a part-time teller job, so there's that! And also, I haven't heard back from the interview from Tuesday, so there's a slight chance of that being a yes. But we'll have to see...

I also have made a huge leap in recovering from the cold. I am not about to run a 5K or anything like that, but it is a big difference. I'm keeping a sharp eye on it so it doesn't turn into bronchitis or something equally ugly.

Haven't done any serious reading or writing since I fell ill, but I hope to begin that again once I start regaining my strength.

That's about what was going on with me these days. Hope things are better for y'all. If not, I hope they do get better, at least, a little more than it was before. <3 div="">

Doing What I Can

After thinking about it for a while (and reading the archives of And Then We Saved) I have decided to do a Spending Diet of sorts. I really want to have a nice chunk of change saved up in my bank for whatever things, and of course for San Francisco. In fact, I had two unexpected expenses to worry about: my glasses' temple bar broke off completely and my Fossil watch started to act weird. Thankfully I was able to find an exact replica of my frames on eBay for half the price I originally bought them for; for the Fossil watch, I got a battery replacement. So far, everything seems to be back to normal (?). My glasses fit great and my watch hasn't been acting like a doofus.

I also got my haircut at SuperCuts instead of my usual stop at JcPenney (their salons are awesome, but pricey). The stylist at SuperCuts did a great job and I only paid half of what I normally do at JcPenney (and that was with a generous tip!). Also been avoiding going out to eat and buying books and music (which hurts, I can't even begin...) Been utilizing the library more often and my job's book loan program. I checked out the new Joe Hill novel* instead of buying it (but Lordy I did want to buy it. I want to support Stephen King's son! I'll buy its eventual paperback release...)

Since the only thing I don't pay for is most groceries, this is still covered by my parents, I'm doing pretty well for someone who only works a part-time job. My car was a gift, though I do pay my share of the insurance. I pay my share of utilities (no rent, since the house is paid off. Go Mom and Dad!) I'm doing what I can with what I have at the time. I do want to move on to a better-paying job (also with great health benefits, since there are meds I need to be on, otherwise remain very healthy) but I'll have to make do. And you know what? Better to learn it now than later.

*Don't worry, B&N customers, I take excellent care of the books I borrow. And if I ever damage them in any way, I always buy it to remain fair and honest.

FYI: the title of the blog entry is a Lindsey Buckingham song.

And I'm back/To let you know/I can really shake 'em down...

Glad to be back, everyone. Here is what happened while I was away (for those who care):
  • I started my second job at my former internship (so basically, doing what I did before, only getting paid). 15 hours a week. Noice.
  • I finished reading The Atrocity Exhibition (liked it), BITCHfest (fricking loved it), and A Plague Upon Humanity (really liked it).
  • Got back into writing Invisible, now I'm stuck again.
  • Found myself addicted to "21st Century Schizoid Man" by King Crimson. Y'all, I heard God in this song...
  • I thank Kanye West for getting me into that song. And yes, "Power" is awesome.
  • In lieu of this piece of news, I made an attempt to make my own Volcano Burritos. While they weren't exactly the same, they tasted better. (Yes, I'm going to stop going there. Same goes for Chick-fi-la.)
  • Found myself only going on the Internet for a few hours at a time, instead of being constantly on.
  • Saw The Green Hornet (liked it okay), Origin: Spirits of the Past (didn't like it), and Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (really liked it).
  • Learned more about what's going on in Egypt (it's looking rougher by the day...). Check out Mother Jones. Power to the people!
So, back to the regular schedule and back to what I do best: rant about writing and reviewing books.

It'll be like I never left.

Maybe not.
