Updates and such... in a bullet list.

Before I make the list.. happy 20th birthday, sis! Yea! *blows party horn and throws confetti*

Now... bullet list.
  • Just started reading this. So far, I hate it. But, there is no other option. It's for class... blah.
  • Began A Midsummer Night's Dream. So far, it's pretty good. It's not beating The Tempest, though.
  • Nearing the halfway point on Jane Eyre. I'm trying to figure out if I want to crack open Wuthering Heights after this...
  • I got my mom's cold. Yea...
  • Most of the "how-to" writing books I've been reading are getting on my nerves.
  • No more TV for today!
I'm about a fourth of the way in New Moon. Okay, if (and that's a big IF) I was a fan of the series, I would've been on Team Jacob. Well, until... I finish reading the rest of the books. 'Cause, what I hear, he ends up being no better than Sparkly-Boob.

Yes, and may I complain about something? Okay, thank you, whoever granted me permission. Alright, Bella is a total idiot. I know, being obvious here, but I can't believe HOW MUCH of one she is. Edward isn't worth it. AT ALL. I wish she could move on, even past Jacob, and just grow a freaking spine. But no. She doesn't. (Read the plot summaries on Wikipedia if you don't believe me)

/random rant

Right now, I'm listening to Sheryl Crow's "There Goes the Neighborhood". Good Lord, I forgot about this song. Oh yeah... and I don't enjoy it much now. In fact, I got really tired of her.

Anyway, I leave you, reliving my strange music tastes as a teenager...

Some thoughts...

I just started reading New Moon. Okay, it's not a good book, but not OMGWTF awful!, but yeah... rolling my eyes at the constant quips of Edward/whoever else is just freaking gorgeous.

Edward's such a pushy dude. Bella is a grouch. It's a breezy read, but man... I hope it's just the period talking. I have to hate it. The first one was bad.

Also finished Andy Summers' One Train Later. He can sure spin a good yarn. He has quite a handle of language. Mr. Summers, write a novel!

~

Also started reading Jane Eyre. God, I forgot how wonderful this book is. Such language and description... and the characters! I'm in a happy place right now.

~

Sorry that this isn't much of an entry. Later then...

Oh, wow. That was quick...

Apparently, President Obama is about to push an equal-pay bill into law.

Go, Prez!

John Updike: 1932-2009

"A&P" was an amazing short story. You will be missed, Mr. Updike.

Obituary here.

Just another update...

First off, two congrats are in order: one for my sister, who got her first job about two weeks ago. Yea, sis!

Second, happy twenty-four years of wedding bliss, Mom and Dad! Their anniversary was yesterday.

~

Well, I'm getting back into the swing of things... in the writing sense, anyway. I've been plugging away at some nonfiction work and working out some details of a long-going novel project.

Also, I'm stuck to working on an explication of a reading assignment from Victorian Lit. So, yeah. You know all those s*** I was dealing with last year? Well, let's see if I can do it this time. For some reason, I think it is possible this time. Plus, my reward for not having a freak-out is a trip to a real record store (not Half-Price Books, which I frequent). The trick is I have to find one.

Finished reading Richard III. It was a great play. Ricky-boy was such a bastard, yet you gotta hand it to him, he had a way with words...

Haven't read much lately. When I would sit in bed and read, I get too tired and go to sleep instead XD

Anyway, just hanging around my house and thinking of what to do. I leave you, wondering if I might be seeing some winter weather (!)...

It's time for another random post!

I think I'm a secret fangirl of Joyce Carol Oates and Margaret Atwood. That is all.

Here's something I haven't done before...

I checked out online personals. Wow, maybe I should go join a club on campus or something. Meeting someone online still weirds me out.

Yeah, as I'm about to reveal... I haven't dated yet. At all. Just too scared to. Or maybe, it's not my time.

Anyway, also checked out Facebook. Good Lord. This is why I fear the Internet. Too much information being shown and s***. I deleted my account very quickly. I did find a few people I knew, but I don't know. I rather email them.

I sound like an technophobe, but I have more issue with giving out lots 'o info just to find people I once knew.

Eh, whatever... I should be doing schoolwork.

My current booklist

Here is a list of books I'm planning to read very soon, class readings notwithstanding.

La Reine Margot by Alexandre Dumas (try to finish this freaking one!!)
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
Inferno by Dante
Macbeth by William Shakespeare
I Know What You Did Last Summer by Lois Duncan
A House Like A Lotus
by Madeleine L'Engle (re-read! Yea!)
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (Lord and Jesus, grant me the grace and patience to survive this one...)

No real reason for posting this, just wanted to.

I can't believe this...

Last night, I watched American Psycho on TV. It was actually a pretty good movie. And I have the book and now I want to read it.

Huh, and to think I cowered at this film for such a long time... but I wonder if I saw an edited cut. Then again, they did show nudity without the blurring.

Thank God for movie channels that aren't premium that show uncut films.

School begins again...

It's the beginning of my final year at college. I'm about two semesters (not counting the current one) away from a sweet Bachelor's and some bling-bling (i.e., the college ring).

I'm planning to help with my folks on saving up for the ring. I was happy to discover that I could get it in silver and it would be cheaper than initially thought. Bus passes went up, though. Nearly died at the fiscal office when the clerk told me the price.

Post-college plans? I'm considering graduate school, but not for a while. I want to give it a few years and really save up. Good Lord knows it'll be a pricey endeavor. Worthy, but pricey.

My classes are shaping up to be unique and fun experiences. I'll report on those as the semester moves on.

My Shakespeare class has me reading Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, and Romeo & Juliet. With the exception of the latter two, I've been meaning to read them (I own copies of them). Yea for forced reading!

My Nonfiction class seems to be what the doctor ordered. I've been thinking of writing various things and feeling comfortable doing so. Then again, the professor for that class is an awesome lady.

Enough rambling. I have classes tomorrow, so I'm gonna go relax. I leave you, thinking about what I want to drink...

Oh wow...

I finished Watchmen in less than three days. It was good, but man, the whole grand scheme didn't make much sense.

Looking forward to the movie, though.

I love me some equality...

I finished Jessica Valenti's Full Frontal Feminism earlier today. It was a great read, full of insight and valuable information. Wanna become educated on feminism? Like writers with an intelligent and laid-back writing style? Read this book! I highly recommend it.

I want to personally (well, as personal as the 'Net can be) thank Ms. Valenti for writing a splendid primer and for fighting the good fight. Check out her website.

I leave you, wondering why for the love of God I'm listening to Celine Dion...

Hey! Wanna see evidence of humanity's eventual downfall?!

I found these last night, but was too f***ing lazy to post.

WTF?!

I love this for the sheer WTF***ery.

WTF?! 2.0

This... this is... no. Just no. Watch the trailer (link to Youtube in original post) and be horrified. Thank God it will flop and everyone will forget about it as just one big mistake.

I leave you, cowering in the corner and trying to justify why I'm a misanthrope...

Hells yeah!

Look who's releasing a new album this year... ma girl Vienna!

She's an amazing musician. If you haven't given her a try, go to iTunes (or whatever music service you use) and have a listen.

This wasn't expected.

I ended up enjoying Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth. And I thought it wasn't going to be my thing.

Huh, whatever... *listens to "Teen Age Riot" in her head*

New Year's Grand Schemes!

Well, you know... I might as well tell y'all. I'll even give explanations!

The List:
  • Organize my time better. If I can conquer time management, happy fun times will be had. Oh, and I get tons more stuff done, both serious and fun things.
  • Spend more time and effort on my schoolwork. No more B's for me! I want to graduate summa cum laude (cum laude would be nice too).
  • Begin to do yoga. Recommended by my chiropractor due to my scoliosis/sciatica nerve issues. Plus, I love yoga.
  • Attend church. Believe it or not, I never attended church. I would love to hear at least a few services from different places.
  • Volunteer for a charity for two weeks. I'm donating to charity, why not physically do something for charity?
  • Drink more water. Since I swore off caffeniated products, I'm relying on powdered tea. That's good, but not efficient.
  • Save my money more efficiently. I'm trying to save up for an apartment, fun stuff, charity donations, and some random big-ticket item.
  • Learn all about my insurances. Since I have been kicked off my folks' insurance at the end of last year, I might as well know how the one I get from my job works.
  • Watch more movies. I have a Netflix backlog like you wouldn't believe.
  • Practice guitar every day for an hour. I have a feeling guitar-playing will make things easier for me to deal with.
  • Write every day. This is obvious, since I'm a writer.
  • Do better on my car's upkeep. Since it's mine (not 100% though), I might as well know how it all works.
  • Lessen my movie, book, CD, and video game backlogs. How can I justify buying more books if I haven't read the ones I already have? Same goes with the other categories.
  • Learn many new skills. Many examples include: how to maintain a car, fix faucets, do math, shop for a car... etc.
  • Go out with friends/co-workers/family more often. I'm a homebody, but I want to change that. I love staying at home, but I know I'm missing out on life.
  • Be less scared of the online community. I get nervous on message boards and when I post on here (every so often though). I want to change that. No vlogs or anything like that from me, but just be more active on message boards.
Ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. I'll be (in Cartman's words) hella busy. But, I'll still post on here!

Until next time, I leave you, listening to Talking Heads' "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)"...

-Lindsey

I forgot...

how ace Talking Heads' Speaking in Tongues is. I need to revisit a lot of my music.

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2009!

I have lots of great things planned for this year, which I feel will be a great year. Not just for me, but for the world in general.

We have great things to look forward to and tragic circumstances to overcome (and to grow from). May your celebrations be full of love and cheer, and may the new year be good to you.

Until next time, I leave you listening to Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere"... in my head.
