A minor update...

Working on some Fiction homework I forgot to turn in. O_O;
Sorry Emily, Christina, and James. Y'all's reviews are being sent tonight. As for the others... they're coming, probably Tuesday the latest.

After head-desking over that, I need to be studying for a few upcoming tests. No big deal. I just have to do it. No problem.

As for NaNoReMo... I'm about two days' worth of reading behind. The book's ending up to be more dense than I expected. And, this is weird, I haven't liked a single character so far. Maybe Jedidiah, the God-seeking hermit, but that's a stretch. Eh, the book is just okay. I don't like how Oates is handling the dialogue, which is my biggest gripe with the book so far.

I registered for classes, which ended up going well. I got into all the ones needed to graduate. Since, you know... I graduate next semester! :D

Not that it wouldn't be the first time that has happened to anyone on the interwebs. Hell, I get mistaken for a dude sometimes, only when I make phone calls, since my voice is fairly deep for a woman... -_-

My attempt to justify my long absence

Well, after I posted my little snark on the Silent Hill sequel, I realized that just that won't do to prove that I still have interest in this blog.

I've been working on homework, which has a lot of reading. I think that's why I haven't read any other books as of late, which sucks because I keep buying books but I don't have the time to read them. A lot of critiquing for my workshop, which I kept putting off. I also do a critique lead and turn in my story on the same day. Brilliant timing, self. Just brilliant.

Music geek (with help from her last.fm) will emerge in three... two... one...

Been listening to all the Talking Heads albums. I'm up to Remain in Light, and just started yesterday. Dunno why I decided to do this, but I'm going along with it. I also rediscovered Bat for Lashes, who had been criminally ignored for a while. I'm trying to get into all the people I used to like, just to keep my mind straight during this dense semester.

Yes, I've been listening to "The New Adventure" by Jerry Harrison a lot. No, I have no shame. I'll forever associate this song with bus rides and campus wandering, all while it being cloudy.

And Empire of the Sun's album is really good. I highly recommend it. And yes, they keep getting plays. Thanks to "Standing on the Shore", "The World", and "Half Mast". Great to listen to while reading feminist novels.

Oh, yes. Joy Division. I love them now. They beat Editors, taking their spot for "Best Alternative British Band" on my list. Best song is "New Dawn Fades".

I'm worried now, since there is nothing on how to get the new Editors album in the US. Methinks it's never coming over here. So, I have to go back to Amazon (and this entry will explain why I have a problem with doing this) and order it. I would like to have the Special Edition, but it's an astounding 32 bucks.

No writing, just working and trying to sneak in playtime. Dang Internets keep sucking it all up though. I have to work on that. After this, I'm signing off and try to finish some things before going to work later on today.

Hey look, an update!

Once again, the bullet list is my friend...

• Finished Crash today. Liked the movie a lot more, but will read more Ballard novels in the future. I didn't like the novel due to its graphic imagery, but that's because I'm a wimp about things like that. I did like what the overall theme was about.
  
• School's looking up. Two classes are boring me to death, the other two are going to be "the fun ones".
• Printing out several of my short stories and the novella "Blues" to begin drafting and editing them.
  
• Almost done with my story about the girl who falls in love with Pisces guys. About three thousand words left!
• Getting used to the new schedule. Been getting up early and getting stuff done. It's as if I've become a better student or something... P:
• The Talking Heads songs on Rock Band 2 are ace. The funnest would be "Girlfriend is Better", followed by "And She Was". While jamming out the other night, I broke the guitar controller's tremolo bar. Dammit, I'm gonna have to get a new one. The one I have will be the "bass".

First days of school

So far, looks like all the classes are going to be interesting. The teachers are familiar faces (well, all but one), the texts aren't too daunting nor are the expected tasks, and my classmates are for the most part, a crazy fun bunch of people.

I had to cancel my platelet donation appointment due to impending illness. When my ear is draining, it's the tell-tale sign of a cold coming to town. I hate to do that, especially since earlier this year, I kept getting sick and had to turn down opportunities to donate blood.

I haven't been working on writing in a few days. I dunno why I stopped, but I'm gonna jump back into it before class this afternoon.

Since I don't have classes on Tuesdays, I foresee (other than going to work probably) that day being used for writing and for catching up on schoolwork.

I finished Austen's Northanger Abbey (finally) and am trying to finish up the Ballard book.

Uhm... that's pretty much it. I apologize for the brevity.

Just an advance warning...

Because I have a rising stack of books to read and school to prepare for, my online presence won't be as frequent. In fact, ya may want to start expecting this kinda trend.

Look at me, talking like people actually read this blog on a daily basis. XD

I've been using the 'Net as an easy escape too often. The symptoms of boredom.

I also haven't been writing. I'm not sure what to do next. Maybe the story about the woman who falls for the Piscean guys...

My finals are over. And they sucked. I hardly studied, yet they sucked regardless.

And I have to work tomorrow. And I only slept for four-and-a-half hours. And I have a cold with the nastiest cough.

I'm stuck on campus for five hours. I ain't returning home and then turning 'round and going back on the bus. Thank God for books and my laptop... and extra tissues.

Oh, yes. Update. Hmm. Things are well. Sorta. It's just the last few weeks of school. I have a paper I need to begin (and finish in about a week), a final portfolio, and two finals to fret about.

No writing, but listening to all my music again. That's another good thing about getting a new computer: racking up new play counts. So far, "Houses in Motion" ranks as the most-frequented song.

Lots of reading, though.

Just another update...

First off, two congrats are in order: one for my sister, who got her first job about two weeks ago. Yea, sis!

Second, happy twenty-four years of wedding bliss, Mom and Dad! Their anniversary was yesterday.

Well, I'm getting back into the swing of things... in the writing sense, anyway. I've been plugging away at some nonfiction work and working out some details of a long-going novel project.

Also, I'm stuck to working on an explication of a reading assignment from Victorian Lit. So, yeah. You know all those s*** I was dealing with last year? Well, let's see if I can do it this time. For some reason, I think it is possible this time. Plus, my reward for not having a freak-out is a trip to a real record store (not Half-Price Books, which I frequent). The trick is I have to find one.

Finished reading Richard III. It was a great play. Ricky-boy was such a bastard, yet you gotta hand it to him, he had a way with words...

Haven't read much lately. When I would sit in bed and read, I get too tired and go to sleep instead XD

Anyway, just hanging around my house and thinking of what to do. I leave you, wondering if I might be seeing some winter weather (!)...

Update on the grades

I got effing Bs. In my two English classes. Well, if anything, it was like two years ago: I got depression, I got Bs in all my classes.

Eh, it's better than failing, but... it's the perfectionist in me. I know I can do better. I resolve, as of today, to kick ass and take names the next time around.

/whiny rant thing.

And woah, work today was fun. People were coming from nowhere. We were still busy even as I left for the night. But, that's the Christmas rush for ya.

Just an obligatory update...

Well, tomorrow is my solitary final and the official start of my winter vacation. So far, things are going well.

I've been working my butt off, making money. Apparently, I also got a 50-cent raise. Most excellent.

I've been reading and writing (more of the former, truthfully). I hope to finish all the books I have listed as my current reads soon.

Nothing much else to say for now. I leave you, thinking about Eugene O'Neill's "Beyond the Horizon"...

A smattering of thoughts...

The first thing y'all might take notice of is that my icon had changed. My sister made it for me after I told her about my favorite line from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Ya gotta love British humor.

Life is going well. I finished up my counseling. I was surprised it ended in about two months. I was thinking it would take longer. I also registered for classes next semester. Two are serious lit classes. Here's to it working this time... well, it will work or I'll be damned.

After asking around, I found some places that might sell a vintage Fender Mustang. My heart's been set on one since I played Rock Band 2 (one of the guitars you can buy for your avatar is a 1965 Mustang). I colored it to look like the one David Byrne had (dark red with a pearl guard).
This guy at a guitar store near my house told me that Mustangs regained popularity because Kurt Cobain used one. I was somewhat aware that Cobain used one, but not of the popularity thing. Go fig, me still being unaware of trends. Plus, since it's a small guitar, it works out because of my current space issue.

Still reading La Reine Margot. About three days' worth of reading behind. It's a hard read, but I'm still enjoying it.

I bought Mirror's Edge recently. So far, it's a pretty good game, but there are timed parts. Dammit. I also canceled my preorder of Tomb Raider: Underworld due to monetary constraints and the fact that I have zero interest in it. I downloaded the demo. It sure looks nice and it's nice to see that Lara still controls badly. Ha!

A little-known fact about myself: I grew up on country music. I got into rock on my own (well, sort of). We're talking Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis and Nanci Griffith. My parents were into rock: my mom loved Fleetwood Mac and my dad loved Genesis, CCR, the Moody Blues, Phil Collins, Dan Fogelberg, and Fleetwood Mac.
Yet they never bothered to really expose me to all that. Sure, my mom had issues with Madonna (especially during the Like A Prayer era), but otherwise, there wasn't anything that would warp my little mind. Over the years, I still gravitate to some of the older country (especially Nanci Griffith). Yet, most country music now is just horrible. It's trying way too hard to be rock.

I got into rock music when I was about eleven. A friend of my mom's gave me an extra copy of Fleetwood Mac's The Dance. I listened to it while we were staying with her in L.A. Obviously, fond memories were had. Later, I started borrowing my dad's Genesis and Phil Collins CDs. At the same time, my dad went through a Celine Dion phase that lasted until mid-2004. Obviously, even if we tried, my sister and I couldn't escape repeated plays of Let's Talk About Love. While all my friends were swooning over Backstreet Boys and Ricky Martin, I was jamming through my pre-teens to CCR's "Bad Moon Rising" and Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way".
Throughout my teens, I was exposed to Steely Dan, Prince, the Eagles, Tom Petty, et all. By then, I was a fairly hardcore Fleetwood Mac. When I turned 19, I rediscovered Genesis. Hardcore with them until about nine months ago when I sort-of rediscovered Talking Heads. The abridged version is that I bought Speaking in Tongues at a mall while visiting a friend of my dad's (what's with me discovering potential musical loves while on vacation?) and only got into "Burning Down the House". Fast-track to five years later, I buy some of their songs on iTunes and got hooked, bought their Best of and... well, the rest is history.

Whoa, time to resurrect the tag "hey a long post", which I wanted to read like this: "Hey! A long post!" but the tag system isn't very kind to punctuation.
