Some Good Things: A List of Happiness

• I preordered a vinyl copy of Nite Jewel's new album and it initially came warped (thanks USPS, ya jerks), but the company (and possibly Nite Jewel herself) apologized and offered to send me a new one. I just got my second copy and it was autographed (my first was, but I wasn't expecting the second copy to be)! 

• My recent health issues (see last entry) have pushed me to eat better and get right into exercising. I also am planning to see a cardiologist to double-check some things. (Exactly what is going on will be detailed in due time. I want to wait for things to pass before I talk about it in full)

• My new supervisor is awesome! He has been caught up to speed on my health issues and also is going to help me (and many of my colleagues) look into other career opportunities. I'm thinking of either working for scheduling or Quality Assurance. 

• The case/lang/veirs album is absolutely f***ing magic. I cannot wait to see them in August!

• Lazy Game Reviews (LGR) did a hour-long video of just him building a computer and it's so much fun to watch. 

• Natalie Goldberg's latest book reminds me of two things: writing is awesome and I really need to get into meditation. 

• Meg Turney, one of my two girl-crushes*, has her own Patreon and Twitch accounts now. I may sign up to be a donor soon. And also for LGR, PushingUpRoses, and Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob). 

• Shura and Bat for Lashes' new albums are out! And I'm still waiting on my preorders. UGH.

What I Would Take 2.0

A while back, over a year ago to be exact, I did my first attempt at The Burning House (where I photographed what I would take in the event of a forthcoming catastrophe). Since time has passed, favorite things have changed. There were things I rather save than others, so some switching around was done. Now I feel that I have a better idea. Or at least, the most current one.

I feel like I've been going up and down on things these days (but dammit it won't affect San Francisco and future events!). I blame it on PMS and general stress. And the job thing I was talking about for a while now...

My mom was pointing out that she was afraid of me lapsing back into the state I was in last year. And you know? That was my fear from the very beginning. She helped me gain perspective and change how I feel about everything. It was then I was able to turn down the job and move onto future plans. I feel a great sense of relief and understanding about things now. As always, my mom has been a big help. And also, I listened to my gut. And my gut said "that's nice of them, but this isn't what you want". And there you go.

That and listening to this song over and over does help a lot. Damn, it's good.

What I Would Take...

For a long time, I've always wondered what I would take with me if I had to abandon ship in any form or fashion (I fancy it'll be tornadoes more than anything, they do hit my area of Texas after all...). And so, tonight, I have the answer:

I was kinda surprised on what I left out (like my headphones, my electric guitar, and more of my favorite books), but to be honest... this is everything I would rush to get out of the house. All these things I would be beyond devastated if I ever were to lose them. If anything were to happen, God forbid, I could start a new life with all this here. Yeah, even without my books and records and other collectibles... I could start all over again. Or at least, be able to travel with very little.

Yes, there is a hilarious reflection on the framed poster of my whiteboard with all the bumper stickers of various record stores I like to visit whenever I'm in town. It's covering the bottom half of Jerry Harrison. XD

Some thoughts on bookbinding

When I began my first project, I hand-cut the text weight papers (e.g. the lined paper for notebooks) with a craft knife. The papers were uneven, this with the aide of a metal ruler. Then, just earlier this evening, while at my friend's house, I managed to hand-cut papers and actually they turned out very well. Well, I told myself to do a few projects a week, to get the hang of it. So far, my skills are slowly improving.

Already done a few Japanese stab bindings, getting the hang of those too.

A new entry, in the tune of happy...

Wow, talk about singing a different tune. Today started off funny, but it got better over time. I turned in my paper, which I still think is made of concentrated idiocy. In Women & Lit, another professor read some of her published poems (which we're studying for the class). The poems were great.

Shakespeare remained as boring as ever. The only good thing is discussion on Hamlet will cease next time.

Philosophy of Religion... well, I got my midterm back. Y'know, the one that I didn't study too much on and feared of totally bombing it? Well... I got a B. *runs around the house cheering*

I also got my short story done (I wrote most of it during Shakespeare) and completed the first draft by the beginning of Philosophy.

I also finished Cranford a few minutes ago. I liked the characters, but the story... not so much. I know what Ms. Gaskell was doing with the novel, but I didn't enjoy it.

So, yeah. My day went a lot better than yesterday.

After some serious calculating (and asking a math nerd to check the numbers), I have discovered that my 100th entry was this one. So much for a kick-ass landmark entry. Oh well, fifty more entries until 200, so I can try again.

*Happy flail* Part Two: The Revenge

Apparently, there is buzz that Verizon Wireless might get their hands on the iPhone. That would effing rule. For a while, I've been obsessed with having one. For one, there is the feature to make ANY OF YOUR ITUNES SONGS a ringtone. Also, they're pretty cool in general. I had customers let me handle their iPhones to look up the email coupons and the Amazon pages of books they're searching for. So, I've grown fond of the little buggers.

The big plus is, if all this does come to pass, I don't have to sign onto AT&T (nothing against them, but I'm very happy with Verizon). Plus, word is that the iPhone might be cheaper and not as harder, better, faster, stronger like the original, but still a little beast to be reckoned with.

I'm a day behind on Blues, due to getting up at ungodly hours in the morning to go help shelve at work yesterday. I may try to do 2,000 words today, but I'm not betting on it.

OMG, I got a new computer!

While I don't have a picture of it (yet), but I just got a brand new computer. It's a lovely Presario that is much beefier (in terms of processor speed, RAM, etc.). I'm very proud of it, it is also my first computer that I purchased with my own money. Whoo!

Beyond that, nothing much else is going on. So, sometime next week, I'll have a better entry. I leave you, trying to upload my music...

Isn't she gorgeous? Plays wonderfully too. I named her "Zimbra", after the Talking Heads song.

If I practice guitar for one whole month, unfaltering to that, I'll purchase an amp. For now, she sounds like a twangy acoustic.

I'm ONE book away from my goal to finish reading 56 books by the end of the year. Yea!!

Am I still a writer?

I heard back from a longtime friend and telling her about what's been going on in my life since we last spoke had got me thinking about the future of my writing. I haven't touched it since late August, that's when all the issues have come to a head.

I now arrive at a big hurdle: writing a paper for my Sci-Fi class. I could up and quit the class, but that's not an option. This is the chance to pull myself up and try again. Put all my mad skillz to the test. My reward: a lovely deck of tarot cards. Of course, I must get it finished before my surgery, so I can recover from it without much stress.

I guess the title is the big question I've been asking myself for a while. I still call myself one. It is a part of me, yet no longer the dominating force. Guess it's wait and see.

Yea, two days until the first day of fall!

Man, I need to update more often...

Wow, I had to drop an English class. That is unheard of... for me. But, it is for the best that I take a step back and look over my life as it is right now. I've never been this self-aware before, which is both exhilarating and infuriating.

Because of my stress, and other things likely, I'm now ill! I can't have this, not when my surgery is two weeks away! I hope it goes away soon...

~

As for school reading, I'm eager to begin The Great Gatsby. Also, my editing textbook... which reads like any textbook: boring and methodical. But hey, an AP style open-book quiz is this Monday! XP

Going to the counselor has revealed that pretty much everything my parents and my sister have been telling me for years... is valid. Well, looks like I should've listened to everyone, huh? :P

I don't know if I still want to be a writer, or even pursue my current degree plan. But, I'll have to ride out this semester and see what happens.

Special thanks go out to my family and my friends for being supportive and loving, and a salute to my counselor for helping me get back on my feet.
