Spiders is finished. As of today on 3:46 PM local time, the first draft of the novel is finished. (But holy mackerel, the prologue is NOT going to be in the final draft.)

But I finished one of my first major goals: wrap up the "24 Reviews for 24 Years" before my birthday. The review of The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt was a very appropriate end to this.

Finally, an update on Invisible

I finished Part 2 and beginning Part 3. It took forever, because I was getting worried over little things that can be easily resolved with "it's a first draft". And now, it also wants a fourth part. Why, Invisible, why? You're already a long-ass novel thing!

Ahem. Anyway... if I get 1,000+ words done before I head to bed, I'll take the day off and read until my mid-shift at the bookstore.

Or I get Raptured. Whatever happens. /lulz

I have a legit reason for...

the lack of a review for The Red and the Black.

I got an internship. Yep, I did it. Got it. Will be doing stuff with this organization in town. Looking very much forward to it.

And wasn't that one of the forty-three things to do? Yep, it sure was! Number fourteen! The recliner will also be here next week, so there's that too (number eleven, by the way)! Forty-two things to go.

Well, I should've gotten the review done sooner but I didn't want to rush it. Like the Ghosts review, I had to write it in advance and then post it (instead of releasing it that Monday, but by the time it was finished, it was early Tuesday morning).

Anyway, the review is forthcoming. Y'all may have to wait until mid-September for it. In the meantime, I got things to start doing, so see y'all Monday.

A new entry, in the tune of happy...

Wow, talk about singing a different tune. Today started off funny, but it got better over time. I turned in my paper, which I still think is made of concentrated idiocy. In Women & Lit, another professor read some of her published poems (which we're studying for the class). The poems were great.

Shakespeare remained as boring as ever. The only good thing is discussion on Hamlet will cease next time.

Philosophy of Religion... well, I got my midterm back. Y'know, the one that I didn't study too much on and feared of totally bombing it? Well... I got a B. *runs around the house cheering*

I also got my short story done (I wrote most of it during Shakespeare) and completed the first draft by the beginning of Philosophy.

I also finished Cranford a few minutes ago. I liked the characters, but the story... not so much. I know what Ms. Gaskell was doing with the novel, but I didn't enjoy it.

So, yeah. My day went a lot better than yesterday.

ETA: I think my completed short story is a little novella-in-training. Awww... they're so cute until they grow up.

After some serious calculating (and asking a math nerd to check the numbers), I have discovered that my 100th entry was this one. So much for a kick-ass landmark entry. Oh well, fifty more entries until 200, so I can try again.

Down but not completely out...

Yeah, it's been over a week since I last updated this here blog. Since it's a new season, the temperatures change and the nights start to become longer (well, not until October) it leads to... you guessed it, sickness! I'm doing much better and the worst of it is over, but it'll be a little longer before I fully recover.

And no, it's not H1N1. I don't know why I have to say this, but there you go.

As for school, I've played catch-up long enough. I finished Pride and Prejudice (which I liked okay), read almost all the essays up to the current one in my Philosophy of Religion class, turned in my story for workshop (and got some great feedback!), and Shakespeare remains boring as ever. Don't get me wrong, I love reading the plays, but the class never talks about the plots, just more on the context.

I've been reading on and off, but nothing's catching on. And school keeps getting in the way. Mostly the latter. But, expect a formal review of this book in the near future. If I can only remember my initial thoughts before I stopped...

As for non-school writing, uhm... uh... yeah...

So, I've been struggling to maintain a balance of work and fun. And wow, is it hard.

The first draft of Blues was completed at 4:01 AM today.

I'm so proud of myself that it hurts.

Besides the self-congratulatory jazz, it is long from over: the overall completion. There is research to be done and drafts to do over.

This was difficult, not without its challenges, but it was truly rewarding. I felt like I did something worthwhile with my time. There will be definitely more epic win stories like this in the future, more finishing drafts and the like.

As for future plans, they remain unknown. For now, I will take a two-day sabbatical. I will be back on the 2nd.

Goal completed!

As of tonight, I completed my "read 56 books in a year" goal! Book #56 was Neil Gaiman's Coraline, which was a wonderful little read.

I didn't think I could do it, but this proves otherwise. I'll continue until I lower my book back-log, which was the original reason I set up such a lofty goal.

Today, my family and I took a road trip out to a camping area we used to frequent. Nothing much had changed. When we stopped at a little antique store in the nearby town, I found a few books: old paperback versions of Deliverance by James Dickey and I Know What You Did Last Summer by Lois Duncan.

Stopping there also keeps a life-long theory of mine afloat: go to any small town (by the coast is better), stop at a bookstore or local antique shop, and take note that about 90% of all the books sold there are used copies of romance novels. I know the reason why this is the case, but it never fails to entertain me.

At the local theater there (yes, this tiny town had a functioning theater), two films were playing: The Day the Earth Stood Still and Twilight. *Screams at the last one and runs for the hills*

Oh man, I think I'm a secret Iron Maiden fan. Already, I proved I was a secret Rush fan earlier when I bought Moving Pictures for Rock Band 2 DLC.
