OMG I'M 30 AAAAAHH

me in five years, just you wait...

So on Saturday, I turned that fated age of 30, marking three decades of living behind me... one decade closer to being a "middle-aged adult". As I sit here in my abode, listening to Norah Jones's new album, watching Commander Holly's videos, and babying my tattoo... I can say with absolute certainty I am happy to be finally here.

My twenties were... really rough (and that's being nice). The last year of it or so were better, but I dealt with eight+ years of bull-crap, too much for me to want to stay in that decade for much longer than needed. So it was a huge sigh of relief to get to this point. I am beyond fortunate to have survived the toughest decade of my life to get here. From here on out, I declare my thirties to be the most awesome ever.

I celebrate even in these dark times of uncertainty, fear, and downright surrealism we as Americans face now and will continue to until... the cows comes home? Man, I don't know. (More on my thoughts about this going forward in a future entry...)

For those who had a birthday Saturday, happy birthday fellow Sagittarians! For the ones already here, we're in for the long haul, let's get to it. For the newcomers, welcome to Spaceship Earth! We need you more than ever.

*just remembered that Steve Buscemi is also a Sagittarian... O_O*

Surprise Big Thing!

Hey people, it's been a while, so glad to be back here on the blog! As I mentioned in a past entry, I had some big things happening this month. Well, here is the surprise one:

I got a tattoo!

Holy s***, I'm 27

About twenty-seven years and sixteen minutes ago (as of right now), I first graced this planet with my glorious presence. My family rejoiced and showered me with love and attention. Whenever it ended up on Thanksgiving, it was like having a large feast in my honor (lulz).

I had the monopoly until my sister came along. It was a good run. /sarcasm

And what am I doing today? I'm heading to work! Such is life, as it should be... I guess. At least I don't work Black Friday (though it's never bad at B&N anyway?) My birthday hasn't and will never be a holiday (until 2015 when my birthday and Thanksgiving collide again!)

And a happy birthday to my fellow birthday buddies: Tina Turner and John McVie! It's fun until it ends up on Thanksgiving, right?

What do I have to say for being on Earth for this long? Some memes, that's what!

And when in doubt, always look at pictures of tiny houses and remember that I live in a world where I learned from personal experience that Vienna Teng is a good hugger.

Here's to ice cream cake and good times. Let's triple the years, self. Live to be 100 and eff the typical lifespan of your family tree!

*drinks water, 'cause she's too broke for beer and it's too early for that, duh*

Two Things

Okay, here is the update on A Wilderness of Spiders:

61543 / 80000 words. 77% done!

~

I have become obsessed with this song:

P.S.: The Band are aaaammmaazzzing (Levon Helm is the man, may he rest in peace) and I'm convinced that Emmylou Harris is an angel on Earth.

~

Oh yeah, today's my birthday. Whee, twenty-six years of living... I mean, WHEE it's my birthday! Yeah, had some cake and homemade chicken wings. And writing. It was a good day.

This post was brought to you by "Screw the Nether" and my new favorite meme.

And because I never learn...

count this as my hat in the ring for next year. I'm going for Script Frenzy, where I write a 100-page screenplay. It is in April 2012. Haven't written a script in a while, time to brush up on my skills! Or at least, read a few books and write little screenplays.

After thinking it over, I have decided to adapt Angela Carter's novelette "The Bloody Chamber" as my project.

More on this as it gets closer to time. And as for the question of will I do NaNoWriMo again? I don't know, right now... it's a maybe. It's going to depend on one thing: when in grad school, will it not get in the way of what I need to do?

So there you go. I'll have to decide (like this time) at the eleventh hour.

Such is the way things are.

ETA: whoo! It's my birthday! Here's to a quarter-century of existing!

Friday, November 26, 2010

Sorry, not creative enough for a title today...

And so, today marks my 24th year of existing. So far, this living thing is interesting. I've learned a lot so far, done so many things, and encountered all different kinds of viewpoints and people. I look forward to more years of living and learning.

Hope your Thanksgiving and Black Friday were safe and happy ones. If your birthday was today also, then join me in reveling for about 30 more minutes.

An early birthday gift!

For a long time, I've been wanting a good, first-edition hardcover copy of Madeleine L'Engle's A House Like A Lotus for the longest time. After about two years of waiting, I finally purchased one off of eBay.

And guess what arrived earlier today?

Happy birthday to me! :D

Pardon the quality, I used my new phone's camera. Though, now looking at it, the quality is actually pretty good.

And yes, that's yours truly behind the book. I must remain anonymous on the interwebs! *gleeful laugh*

Well, sort of.

Oh yes. It must be explained that this book is my favorite of all time. And I have big dreams of adapting this to the screen. If I can just figure out how to translate the narrative structure...

ETA: It is sad to note that it is no longer in print. But, given that a few of L'Engle's books are being re-released... maybe this one will see a re-release. I need another book to shove into teens' faces--I mean, recommend to teens. I gotta have something else other than just Paper Towns. And this too.

It's mah birthday!

*dances the happy dance*

It was a good one too. My mom baked me a cake and then my family and I went out to a restaurant.

My sister, who is awesome, bought me a few nice things: Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (CD), Rush's Moving Pictures (CD), The Complete Persepolis (book), and Dead Until Dark (book). Thanks, sis!

While we were shopping, she bought a copy of Twilight. She's going to give it a try. Poor thing... but it will be funny as hell XD She'll likely finish it in less time than I did (it took me five months).

I changed my icon, yet again. It's of Talking Heads' Jerry Harrison. I have a crush on him. Man, I have a weird taste in men XD (but hell, I have a thing for guys with curly hair...)

Happy Thanksgiving, folks!

-Lindsey
